Replacing Fear with Faith & Hope! Brain Tumour Day; June 8, 2024

Replacing Fear with Faith & Hope

As a neurosurgeon, I have the profound honour of working on the front lines of brain health, where I witness the incredible strength and resilience of patients facing the formidable challenge of a brain tumour diagnosis, on a day to day basis.

On this Brain Tumour Day (June 8th), in an initiative to Replace the Fear with Faith & Hope, I want to share a message of hope, awareness, and solidarity with the community.

Brain tumours are a daunting reality that affects thousands of lives every year. These tumours can impact anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background, bringing with them not just physical challenges, but emotional and psychological burden as well. However, with advancements in medical science, early detection, innovative treatments, and comprehensive care, the prognosis for many patients have transformed over the years.

From ‘dismal outcome to hope’, we have come a long way, but there is still much work to be done.

Replacing Fear with Faith & Hope

The key takeaways are:

  • Awareness and Early Detection

The first step in combating brain tumour is Awareness.

Understanding the symptoms—such as persistent headaches, vision problems, seizures, and changes in personality or memory—can lead to early detection, which is crucial for effective treatment. I urge everyone to listen to their bodies and seek medical advice if something doesn’t feel right. Early intervention can significantly improve outcomes and quality of life.

  • Advances in Treatment

Medical science is constantly evolving, and we are now equipped with cutting-edge technologies and therapies that were unimaginable few years ago. From improved precision and minimally invasive surgical techniques to targeted radiation therapy and advanced chemotherapy regimens, our arsenal against brain tumours are more powerful than ever. Moreover, the field of immunotherapy and personalized medicine holds great promise, offering new hope for patients with previously untreatable tumours.

  • The Power of Support

While medical treatment is critical, the support from family, friends, and the community plays an equally important role in the journey of the patient with brain tumour. Emotional support, understanding, and encouragement can make a significant difference in the mental and emotional well-being of patients and their families. Let us stand together, offering our strength and compassion to those in need.

In a country like India, where the public aren’t aware of the importance & value of possessing ‘Medical Insurance’, it’s a good call to action, to seek one. This definitely can save the individual and the family from Financial burden.

A Call to Action

On this Brain Tumour Day, let us all brace ourselves with knowledge and awareness, and embrace those affected with compassion and support. By working together—patients, families, medical professionals, researchers, and support / care groups—we can fight against brain tumours.

Rather than Brace; lets guide the patients to accept and Embrace this condition through clarity of way forwards, with meaningful longevity and quality of life.

Together, we can transform the challenge of brain tumours into a journey of hope and healing.

Sincerely,

Dr Murali Mohan
